A Winter Night in Montreal

Winter in Montreal has a way of enchanting you. The snow, shimmering under streetlights, paints the city in a soft glow that feels almost magical. On one such evening, I found myself ready to embrace all the wintery charm this vibrant city offers. Here's how I spent a winter night in Montreal.

A Winter Night in Montreal Garde Manger

The night began at Garde Manger, a cozy restaurant tucked into Old Montreal. Known for its eclectic menu and warm atmosphere, it was the perfect spot to escape the cold for a while. I started with their famous lobster poutine—yes, it's as indulgent as it sounds—and followed it up with a hearty duck confit. Each bite was a delicious reminder of Montreal’s culinary prowess. The candlelit ambiance and friendly hum of conversation set the perfect tone for the evening ahead.

After dinner, I stepped back into the brisk winter air, my breath visible as I made my way to the skating rink at Bonsecours Basin. With the historic architecture of Old Montreal as a backdrop, the rink felt like something out of a snow globe. I laced up my skates and joined the cheerful crowd gliding across the ice. The laughter of children, couples holding hands, and friends racing each other made the moment feel joyous and alive.

From the rink, the brightly lit Ferris wheel—La Grande Roue de Montréal—beckoned. Rising above the city, it promised views I couldn’t resist. As the gondola climbed higher, the panoramic scene of the snow-covered streets, the St. Lawrence River, and the skyline twinkling in the night took my breath away. Wrapped in the warmth of my coat, I savored every second of the ride, feeling both exhilarated and peaceful.

By the time I was back on solid ground, the crisp air was biting at my cheeks. I decided to end the night on a sweet note with a stop at Café Myriade, a local favorite for hot cocoa. Their rich, velvety cocoa was like a warm hug in a cup, with just the right hint of sweetness. Sitting by the window, I watched the snow fall softly outside, reflecting on the perfect winter’s night I had just experienced.

Montreal in winter has an undeniable charm—equal parts cozy and exhilarating. It’s a city that knows how to celebrate the season, and for one night, I felt like I belonged to its magical rhythm.
