Most people are not travel-savvy by nature. It is something that comes with experience on the road. This knowledge is developed through countless tiny errors while traveling, including foolish behavior, cultural unawareness or missed buses. To help you along the way, we have compiled a list of some of these travel tips to help you avoid some mistakes of pro travelers.
Use a Backpack or Small Suitcase
By using a backpack or small piece of luggage, you will be forced to pack light. This enables you to keep from carrying too much stuff. We all have a natural tendency to want to fill up an empty space so if you have a lot of extra room in your bag, you will toss some more items in it.
Bring a Towel
You never know when you will need a towel, whether on a picnic, at the beach or to try off after a torrential downpour. Carrying a small towel won’t add too much weight to your bag.
Take an Extra Bank and Credit Card Along
Disasters do happen. It is always a good idea to have a backup plan in case you lose a card or get robbed. You don’t want to be stuck in a foreign place without access to your money. Keep the extra card(s) in a different place than your current cards. In case your wallet is stolen, you can still find cards in your backpack.
Bring a Map
Travelers sometimes avoid using maps out of fear of looking like a tourist. But looking like a tourist isn’t nearly as bad as getting lost and finding yourself in the wrong place at the wrong time. Keep one in your bag to be safe.
